Mary Magdalene has given me so much  and in celebration of Mary Magdalene Feast Day this July 22nd I want to give something to you.

In Episode 397 of The Embodied Podcast I show you how I engage with Mary Magdalene, who to me represents immense compassion and unconditional love.

This world is filled with people who are suffering and sometimes I feel like there is a misconception around unconditional love.

Unconditional love does NOT look like being a punching bag; you do NOT have to sacrifice yourself to manage the feelings of others who are in a worse place than you.

From Mary Magdalene I’ve learned what true unconditional love and compassion actually look like, what it means to have heaven on earth, how to be in my body, how to get out of my head and let my soul take up more space. From today’s episode I hope you learn that you too can have the courage to choose yourself; unconditional love takes strength and your strength can help bring healing to the collective.

P.s. This is the last episode of The Embodied Podcast before my summer break. I hope you have a wonderful summer and I’ll be back on September 12th with new episodes.

Dr. Katherine Lawson is  a Mind Body Medicine practitioner who is deeply interested in therapies that stimulate one's capacity for self-knowledge and self-healing through self-care. She focuses on the interactions between the brain, mind, body, and personality, and the powerful ways in which mental, social, spiritual, and behavioral factors affect health and happiness.

Dr. Katherine has been looking at dreamwork, mysticism and psychedelic experiences for almost two decades as a way to help people experience whatever healing and growth is available to them.

Now her biggest work revolves around helping people prepare for psychedelic experiences and in training them how to integrate those experiences into their lives (post the properly guided psychedelic event) for true healing from trauma and complex trauma.

In our conversation, Dr. Katherine explains the overlap of dreamwork, psychedelic work and the practice of embodiment. We also got into aging in an empowered way.

The science is that when your body understands something it sends a message to your brain that changes the way that your brain is wired to respond to certain events. With certain psychedelics, administered at the correct dosage, your brain can no longer hold the space for shame and judgment which frees you to more fully embody and understand yourself.

If you’re ready to learn more about psychedelics as well as what it looks like to age empowered and to let go of hard things, listen to episode 396 now!

In episode 396 of the Embodied Podcast we discuss:

  • [1:12] How Dr. Katherine communes with God
  • [4:10] Overcoming the fear of death
  • [5:30] Transitioning out of religion and into a broader view of God
  • [9:22] The power of fear in our lives and learning to surrender
  • [12:41] The tension of opposites and the affect the COVID-19 pandemic had on society
  • [14:02] An introduction into Dr. Katherine’s work in dreamwork, mysticism and psychedelics
  • [14:16] Empowered aging - what does it look like and how can it be done
  • [20:12] Properly preparing for psychedelic experiences
  • [21:04] The reasons people are turning to psychedelics for healing
  • [33:50] The different intelligences/natures of psychedelic medicines
  • [37:05] The dual state of consciousness that comes from taking psychedelic medicines
  • [42:34] The benefit of psychedelic therapy over more traditional talk therapy
  • [43:36] Scientific reasons for why psychedelic therapy works when under the proper care
  • [48:32] Three major life events that caused Dr. Katherine to make a major shift in her life
  • [52:16] Putting a dent in grind culture

Dr. Maya Shetreat is a neurologist, herbalist and astrologer who is bridging science and the sacred. Maya is a conventionally-trained pediatric neurologist but she’s also an herbalist and author of The Dirt Cure and she will be the first to tell you she’s weird. And if that’s true then I am her kind of weird and you might be too!

Maya spent her 20s getting married, having babies, and becoming a doctor. She spent her 30s building a practice and growing her family. By the time she reached her 40s, Maya had checked off all the traditional boxes of “success” and then decided to “burn it down.”

Why? Because she knew the expectations that came from being a wife and a woman in her heterosexual marriage were no longer in alignment with her soul’s purpose and longings on this earth.

In our conversation we dig into what it was like to develop at an early age, what it looks like to pursue non-traditional currencies of “success” instead of money and what it looks like to exercise as a spiritual practice.

As Maya is approaching her 50s she has no desire to return to her former self and is falling more in love with her body, her soul and her purpose with each passing day. Our chat touches on how you can do the same.

In our time together we also discuss Maya’s work with mushrooms and psychedelics (you’ll also learn about my first accidental experience with psychedelics) and Maya’s course on creating fun, play and spaciousness in our lives. If you need to heal from trauma, are looking to create more space in your life to pursue your true heart’s desires or would like to work 1:1 with Maya, make sure you connect on  drmaya.com

In episode 395 of the Embodied Podcast we discuss:

  • [0:37] Maya’s complicated relationship with being a doctor
  • [2:10] Maya’s relationship with God, a creative force, the unnameable
  • [5:36] What happens when we harness ourselves to the worship of money
  • [8:16] The types of currency that are valued in western society vs the type of currency Maya has learned to value
  • [9:58] How Elizabeth is using peace and space to determine what she does and does not do
  • [10:45] Maya’s course on fun, play and spaciousness
  • [12:23] The curing abilities of mushrooms and psychedelics for trauma and addiction
  • [16:04] Finding spirituality in exercise
  • [17:16] The 12th House and why it is referred to as “the house of undoing”
  • [19:10] The main reason Elizabeth got back into exercising
  • [22:22] Balancing masculine and feminine energies
  • [24:11] Lifting as a pathway to your personal power
  • [28:04] Blowing up narratives around femininity
  • [32:13] Fatphobia and how it is rooted in prejudice
  • [36:12] How Maya felt in her body when she was in relationship with a man vs. being in relationship with a woman
  • [39:14] The expectations that came with being a wife and a woman in a heterosexual marriage
  • [41:25] How maturing early led both Maya and Elizabeth to protect their body
  • [43:00] Learning to love yourself as a revolutionary idea
  • [46:16] What it looks like to peacefully end a soul agreement and how that can be celebrated
  • [48:05] The beauty in non-traditional paths
  • [50:14] Learning to not be attached to outcomes
  • [52:22] Understanding that when you say yes to something you say no to something else
  • [55:01] Connecting with the sacred through nature
